While many will take the trip to Paoli solely to visit Plato’s Closet, a consignment shop that buys and sells gently-used brand name clothing, there are a wide variety of other shops and restaurants surrounding the train station.
In addition to Plato’s Closet, several quaint thrift stores, such as The Palm Tree of Paoli Hospital, offer unique treasures at bargain prices.
Even if you are not looking for a serious purchase, the selections are always good for a laugh. All proceeds from The Palm Tree go directly to the Paoli Hospital.
Next door, Farmer’s Pride Quality Produce sells all the fresh fruit and vegetables one could want, from peaches and baby cucumbers to fresh squeezed orange juice and ready-made meals.
Even if you do not have a pet, stop by Cutter’s Mill, “The Natural Pet Place.” Everything in the store, from dog food to cat litter, is natural, including specialty coffee for your pooch.
Occasionally, Cutter’s Mill hosts a pet psychic, so you can get an idea of what’s going on inside those furry heads.
For all the dance majors, the Dance Line touts a full line of everything dance-related. While they have not done much business with Eastern in the past, the shop frequently supplies dancers at Villanova and West Chester.
Finally, Paoli’s It’s a Grind Coffeehouse offers all the classic drinks, plus feature items seasonally and desserts, such as the Oreo Brownie.
It’s a Grind also hosts live music, but only sporadically.
“It depends if we can get people out here,” the barista, who goes by Egan, said.
Even with a Starbucks just down the street, Egan said It’s a Grind gets a decent amount of business and often steals some of their competitor’s customers.
In addition, the shopping centers around the train station host Wings to Go, Primo Hoagies, Dunkin Donuts, Philadelphia Pretzel Factory, Radio Shack, several salons, a day spa and a yoga center.
